Washington vs Indiana.

Inexplicably (or perhaps because of an impending NFL clash), the Seattle Times is running a column on Washington versus Indiana. Be sure and click on the pdf document for the chart.

Here's my scorecard...

People: Even. 6.2 mill each, more than I would have thought.
Nickname: gotta go with WA. No one can even figure out where "Hoosier" came from.
Admitted to Union: IN, by 73 years.
Land Area: WA, almost double!
Highest Point: WA. Mount Rainier has it all over Hoosier Hill; and where the hell is that anyway?
Famous Crooner: WA, but IN would have won 20 years ago.
Famous Songwriter: IN. Is Hendrix really known for his songwriting?
Tantrum Thrower: IN. No comparison really.
Memorial Day Tradition: Even. Actually both suck, imo.
Aviation Pioneer: IN. Without Wilbur there wouldn't even be a Boeing.
Top Crop: Even. It's like comparing apples and, well, corn.
Speed Demon: IN. Who remembers Ohno?
Town or Man?: WA. A classic.
Famous Dan: Even. Quayle is embarrassing, but who is Dan Evans?
Funny Person: IN. Is Carol Channing supposed to be funny?
Sizzling NFL Team: IN. Go Colts!
Medicore NBA Team: IN. Pacers will still make the playoffs. Sonics won't.
Silly Town Name: IN. I can still hardly believe it exists.
Technology Pioneer: WA. In a wash.
2004 Prez Choice: WA. Let's not even go there.
Basketball Legend: IN. Again, hardly a fair comparison.
Lamest Song: Geez, IN I guess. They're both stupid, but at least IN has a comedy factor.

And the final results: Indiana wins 11-7. Highly arbitrary and non-scientific, but still entertaining.

Nice! And, yeah, what the hell is a Hoosier? I haven't thought about it for years, but now that we've moved, I find that people are asking me to answer it quite frequently. =)

I have never been able to figure that out either, that was one mystery that was never solved for me even though I spent 4 years in Indiana. Now I'm afraid I'll never know ;)

I always think it is funny (not always funny in a good way) when papers do those 'city versus city' columns, they went a bit overboard here on the Houston bashing during the world series.
