Best of Boston.

We found Boston to be an all-around swank city! Here are some of the highlights:

  • The city resembles Seattle, with its waterfront and high level of walkability.
  • Nearly all of its neighborhoods are incredibly immaculate.
  • Boston Common is like a smaller Central Park, with great views of the cityscape all around. The difference is that it's wonderfully maintained and contains wacky swan boats.
  • Newbury Street is the nicest shopping street anywhere--consisting of gorgeous brownstones with charming shops inside.
  • Boston might not be the hippest place, but the colleges in the Cambridge area (Harvard and MIT) add just enough funk to the city.
  • The "T" subway is clean, fast, and efficient.
  • JP Licks features the best cake batter ice cream in the world.
  • Fenway Park is the most electric place to watch baseball; the fans are certifiably insane for their Red Sox, and it's contagious. We got to witness David Ortiz hit a game-winning home run in the bottom of the 9th inning. It was definitely the most exciting game we'd ever witnessed in person.
  • You can get the world's best blueberry beer at Boston Beer Works (across from Fenway).

Pics follow in the post below. Enjoy!

Shawn,

You forgot to mention that you discovered that the weather here can go from really nice to nasty and hot really quickly. What I wish you could have seen is that it happens the other way too. The heatwave that you guys witnessed the beginning of ended yesterday... really abruptly! At 2:30 it was a humid 95 degrees. Literally an hour later it was 75 and dry.

Also, I don't know if you've been following the RedSox since you left, but they pulled off a couple more 9th innings saves this week. I'm beginning to think that it's all scripted... like pro wrestling... or Kaiju!

Well, that's probably not a highlight... ;) Dave, I'm uber sick now -- having gone from that humidity to cool Seattle really did a number on me! Thanks again for having us. Can't wait to come back...

I had a great time while I was there, and it was really swank to get to see you kids (and Dave, too!) when I was there.

I've been having dreams about that blueberry beer since leaving, and telling everyone that will listen to me (so basically... no one) about it here as well. I've also been sharing stories about Fenway and that Sox game but... baseball stories don't go over as well here in Canada for some reason. Go figure.

'Twas great to see you, too, Daubs! Here's to hoping we can hook up that Samsell gig when we're all reunited in Indy!

And, yeah, blueberry ale. Mmmm.
