Our family visit: the sequel.

So, the weather turned ick yesterday afternoon, making beach photos a bust. I do have more photos to share from our visit with S's mom, sister, and nephew two weeks ago. We had such a good time hanging out together. Besides our dead rock star tour, we went on a canoe excursion, ate some awesome food, and took goofy pictures together. Would you believe that the canoeing spot is in the heart of the city, just 15 minutes away from our house in North Seattle? Gotta love that.

Love me some Lily.

As usual, there's a little too much going on right now for a full report. But, S and I are heading to the beach for a little break tonight to play with the new camera, so I'm hoping to have some new images to share soon. =)

In the meantime, how cute is Lily Allen? She is 100% sass. I'm totally loving this video for "LDN". The beginning is straight out of "High Fidelity". I am especially cracked up over the exotic bird-turned-pigeon:

Also...

I sure can't wait to see this little one in about 10 days. Seriously, how cute is this photo?!

Steve Buscemi was here.

...and I missed it?!

AAAAAAH.

Vandalism for Kurt.

Last night, our pal Andy mentioned that there is a bench in Seattle where Nirvana fans go to pay tribute to Kurt Cobain. With Google's assistance, I located it and, along with S's family, we started a dead rock star tour of Seattle today.

Stop 1: The Jimi Hendrix Memorial.

We first visited Jimi Hendrix's grave site, which felt stark and cold, in that way that only a cemetery can make me feel. For me, it just didn't seem quite fitting. I think I had envisioned something along the lines of Jim Morrison's grave at Pere Lachaise (which oddly has a really neat website)...

Afterwards, we drove to the rather wealthy neighborhood where Kurt Cobain lived and, subsequently, killed himself. We saw his house, visited Viretta Park, and wandered the neighborhood a bit. Just as Andy thought, there are two benches in the park covered in graffiti from fans. It is quite a time capsule. Mixed with posh homes and immaculate landscaping, it is an interesting and odd tribute to say the least. But, again, the 17-year old in me thought it was a pretty neat experience...

Stop 2: The house where Kurt lived and died.

Finally, after revisiting all that tragedy, we just had to play on the way back to the car...

Us, reflected in a mirror on Kurt Cobain's street.
Oh, and did I mention I upgraded to a 30D?

Seven new wonders.

http://www.new7wonders.com/index.php

22 days left to vote for the 7 new wonders of the world. This is a pretty cool poll, even if it sort of leaves countries sans widespread internet/phone access out of the voting ranks. I must say, however, the only thing I wonder about the statue of liberty is why she's so small and disappointing...

The other thing that's cool about this? They announce the winners on the same day as my sister's upcoming wedding: 07.07.07!

Until then...

A quick read: Seattlest's take on this week's match-up between the Cubs and Mariners. Enjoy!

Lots of things going on...

Lots and lots and lots of things going on here right now. We're looking forward to family arriving this weekend and have a lot of cool activities planned. I'm also dealing with some Maida Vale-related problems that are not quite as fun. Still helping to plan my sister's wedding in July, as well. It's coming up quickly now!

Because of all of this, I'm not sure if there will be much time to post on here for a bit. So, stay tuned!

Discovery Park.

We took a nice long hike in Discovery Park on Sunday. The weather was perfect, my voice was long gone, and it was good to just get outside.

Before & After.

The weather was pretty incredible here this weekend. We decided to take on the challenge of ripping up bricks from the pie-shaped planting area in front the house. It is such an obvious spot for landscaping, yet the former owners chose to do nothing about it. We were pretty sick of looking at the weed garden it was developing into and added some pretty cool plants that would never survive in Indiana, including a tropical Canna. Fingers crossed I don't kill it...

Now we're just left to deal with the three different kinds of material that make up our driveway. Ugh.
