Goodbye A&E.

I'm pretty certain that meeting Andy & Elizabeth was no coincidence. When we ran into Andy for the first time at a neighborhood sports bar during a Colts game, he was wearing an IU shirt. We had only lived in Seattle for two months, so we were pretty excited to have found a potential friend. A couple of weeks later, we met his then-girlfriend-now-wife Elizabeth, and were amazed at how much we had in common with them. Elizabeth and I discovered that we even lived in the same house during our college years (which were a couple years apart) in Bloomington. Now, after just a couple of years, it feels like they have been (and will continue to be) lifelong pals.

Today, they are leaving for a new life in Broad Ripple. It's a funny turn of events that seems like karma biting us in the rear. ;) We are sad they're going, and hope that friends back home will have the good fortune of running into them in some random place and befriending them, too.

Good luck, A&E!

How we're surviving the writers' strike.

We are both in the middle of our busiest time of year at work. There may not be much blogging since we don't have much time to even relax at the moment. When we do find ourselves with a bit of spare time, we are generally missing our regular TV programming.

In an effort to find suitable substitutions, we are thankful for TV shows on DVD--whether we're revisiting old favorites or discovering new classics. Here is what we've tuned in to lately:

Peep Show
A wonderfully bizarre, truly unique British program (or should I say programme?) about two gents who lack all social graces. Shenanigans, naturally, ensue.

Flight of the Conchords
FOTC is an HBO show that friends kept telling us we had to see. The show is a bit of a modern day musical as two lads from New Zealand randomly bust out into song as they try to make it as musicians in NYC.

Stella
Created by three members of The State, this short-lived Comedy Central show was cancelled far too soon. Their style of comedic genius can be cheesy at times, but is very often random and absurd. If you have ever seen Wet Hot American Summer (which these three were also heavily involved in), you'll have a good idea of what Stella is all about.

The Mighty Boosh
Another BBC program that we're trying on right now. Not sure what to make of it quite yet. It just might be a creeper...

If this strike goes on, we're going to have to fire up a full-blown campaign to get the entire series of The State released soon. Until then, at least we will get some TV back this week as Lost returns tomorrow. ;)

Another faux band.

Wouldn't you buy this album? =)

Crackin' up.

In light of junkie songstress Amy Winehouse's slide into rehab due to smoking crack, I'm officially re-naming her:
AMY CRACKHOUSE

You all can use that one (please send royalties via Paypal).

One good post.

Sometimes it just takes one good quote (or blogging of said quote) to put things into perspective. In my current state of busy-ness, I appreciated this post today.

Create your own band and make a CD!

S stumbled upon a fun Flickr craze this week, the CD Cover MeMe pool. To participate in this little "game", you do the following:

  1. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
The article subject on the first line of the page is the name of your band.
  2. www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
The last four words of the very last quote is the title of your album.
  3. www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
The third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.
  4. http://www.flickr.com/groups/cdcovermeme/pool/
Put together your cover art and add it to the Flickr pool (if so desired).

Here are two of S's faves:

And the two I've come up with thus far (man, this is fun!):

Where we'll be on Mother's Day.

We are taking our mothers to Italy. Well, they're paying for their tickets and lodging, but we'll be coordinating all of the stuff in between. =) I am over-the-moon excited about this trip. I just can't wait to see the look on their faces when we arrive in Venice.

Bella Venezia

I also can't wait to see the look on our own faces as we experience areas that we haven't visited before. Hopefully northern Tuscany and Lake Como... And I love how I can cruise around the internet to start dreaming about these places.

Attack of the giant cupcakes.

I broke out the giant cupcake pan I received for Christmas this weekend, and a monster was born. The resulting cake rivaled Bluebee in size (and was just as fluffy, too). We took it to a party with us, so I can now attest to the fact that a giant cupcake is not easy to transport!

The party we attended was one of those incredibly-close-to-out-of-control kind of parties. And, because of that, it was awesome! A&E threw a final party before they move to Indy at the end of this month. Sure, it started out harmless, but after a keg (and other libations in the house) had been drained, things started to turn wild.

At one point, it became obvious that people were really starting to have a good time. There were several items up for grabs that A&E didn't feel like moving with them. In addition to laying claim on those things, guests also started to take family photos off the walls. Then, someone decided to raid Andy's closet. Eventually, half of the party was dressed in Hawaiian shirts, Pacers, Cubs and Colts jerseys, and funky ties Andy acquired in his early college days. His hat collection was also out on full display as we all danced around in the living room looking like mismatched goofballs. It was a funny sight, one I won't be forgetting anytime soon.

Go Horse!

Some pics from our trip home for the holidays. We attended the Colts v. Texans game where we watched them win (but only after we had eaten about a dozen blue jello shots in the parking lot beforehand). The snow-manning was even in attendance. We're hoping Sunday's result will be much the same. =)

Bob is Defensive MVP.

That's right, my fave Colt, Bob Sanders, was named the NFL's Defensive Player of the Year for 2007! I think I was the first person to wear his jersey back in 2005 (thanks to H getting it for me for Christmas). Kudos to Bob, and good luck to the team this weekend!

Visions of Christmas Past.

Ever since we returned, we've been a bit off. We're sleepy, both a bit unwell, and trying to catch up around the house. Going back to work this week has been no easy task, either. Next on my to-do list: catching up on our friends' blogs. Expect lots of comments heading your way soon! ;)

Anyhow, just wanted to share a few nice photos from our holiday trip back home... I especially enjoyed watching Aubree choose to eat presents rather than open them. =)

Top fonts of 2007. That's right, fonts!

A lot of "best of 2007" lists have been coming out lately, most of them being music-related. And, while I love those, I received an newsletter today announcing the Top 10 Fonts of 2007. Unique! Exciting! And, my oh my, the fonts are purty.

Happy Election Year!

Well, we're finally here: 2008.
Election year.
Woot, woot!

On a totally different note, I enjoyed reading this little blurb on The Stranger's music blog about snowboarding today. I love Ride and I love that there is finally enough snow in the mountains for us to ski on.
